Aged care benefits

The NDIS was established to replace the existing disability services system. It is a national program with the goal of enabling individuals with a disability to participate in activities of daily living. The NDIS will focus on improving people’s quality of life instead of on just covering the costs of care. It will support people with disability to live independently in the community and enjoy employment or learning opportunities. The program has recording and reporting requirements, which are designed to provide information to assist with planning and decision-making. The NDIS provides funding for the costs of aged care. “Assisted living’ and ‘ Supported Living’ are the most common types of aged care. Assisted living provides assistance with the provision of basic services such as meals and housekeeping. The client can still have some degree of control over their own life, with some services being contracted out. Supported living is more comprehensive, with more involvement on the part of the aged care provider.
The NDIS check process is a one-off process for all aged care providers who have a one-year contract with the NDIS. It is a mandatory process that the provider needs to participate in or they face a fine. The process is designed to ensure that the provider is meeting the quality standards and complying with the standards applying to all NDIS providers. The provider is audited by a third party called an approved NDIS auditor. The audit is designed to check that the provider is adhering to the NDIS standards and that the provider is meeting the standards applying to all NDIS providers. The audit process runs on a quarterly basis.
The NDIS provides funding for residential aged care providers. The benefit of the NDIS funding for residential aged care is that it provides a guaranteed annual income. The provider can choose to receive 80% of the fee for a caregiving service and is financially secure knowing that the government will pay them for the service. There is also the opportunity for some service contracting out. This means that the client can choose to have some services provided by the provider and some by a contracted out service.
The client is assessed as having a disability and is placed on the NDIS disability list. The disability list is a list of people who are eligible to receive the NDIS disability services. The client can receive their care and assistance needs identified in the aged care plan under the NDIS disability plan. The provider can choose to accept the client on the disabled list and receive an 80% fee or decline the client and continue to receive the fee for the service.
The client is assessed as having a disability but is not placed on the NDIS disability list. The client can receive their care and assistance needs identified in the aged care plan under the NDIS disability care plan. The client may need care and assistance for a period of time until they are able to participate in the workforce and access long-term care. The provider can choose to accept the client on the disability care list and receive an 80% fee or decline the client and continue to receive the fee for the service.
