Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists work to restore physical function, independence, or quality of life in patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, or respiratory impairments. They use a holistic approach to assess the patient’s condition and develop an individual treatment program. Physiotherapy can help with pain, muscle stiffness, poor balance, and other symptoms related to conditions such as arthritis, a neurological condition, or a stroke. Physical therapists can also help people with learning disabilities by addressing issues of fine and gross motor skills, including balance and coordination, as well as coordination with cognition. Physiotherapy can be done in a variety of settings, including in your home. You may get one-on-one treatment or have the therapist work with the whole family. Depending on your condition, you may have someone else in the house helping out with tasks, like fetching water or cleaning your house, so you can focus on your recovery.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists help people with disabilities develop and maintain skills and independence. They assess a person’s abilities and needs and design a treatment program that meets both the physical and social aspects of daily living. People with cognitive disabilities may benefit from access to common spaces and objects, as well as the ability to perform daily tasks independently. An occupational therapist may work with people to develop a plan to increase their independence, including how to use the bathroom independently. They may also work with people who have communication disorders to improve spoken and written communication.

Therapeutical Supports

Therapeutic support is an activity or service provided by a person with a disability to help make up the difference between the person’s abilities and his or her needs. Therapeutic support can be as simple as helping a person with a wheelchair use a door or as complex as helping a person with a severe intellectual disability live independently and participate in community life.
